    Review: 2025 Toyota Tundra Limited

Brisbane drivers are spoiled for choice when it comes to dual-cab utes.

You've got the stalwart workhorses, the burgeoning budget crowd, and a growing field of American heavy-hitters. But the 2025 Toyota Tundra Limited steps into its own lane.

It's Toyota's first locally re-engineered full-size pick-up, built for Australian conditions and remanufactured right here with Walkinshaw's help.

It's also a strong signal that Toyota is ready to play in the big-truck segment without compromising its hallmark reliability.

For Queenslanders who tow, tour, or simply like the idea of having all the muscle you'll ever need underfoot, this is the Toyota that finally matches the American trucks in size and grunt, while keeping the badge you already trust.

    Built for the Long Haul

The Tundra Limited is powered by Toyota's i-FORCE MAX hybrid system, pairing a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with an electric motor. Together they deliver 326 kW and 790 Nm, numbers that make towing a 3.5-tonne caravan up the Toowoomba Range feel like Sunday driving.

Even with a 4,500 kg tow rating (on a 70 mm ball), it doesn't break a sweat.

That instant torque from the hybrid motor gives it a smooth, confident surge off the line, and is something you notice most when pulling out of a boat ramp or overtaking on the Bruce Highway.

The 10-speed automatic gearbox keeps the power flowing seamlessly, with the petrol V6 providing a deep, satisfying note when pushed.

For a full-size truck tipping the scales at around 2.8 tonnes, the fuel figures are surprisingly reasonable. In mixed Brisbane driving, expect anywhere from 10 to 14 litres per hundred, depending on load and route. That 122-litre fuel tank gives it the legs for long stretches between servo stops, a bonus for those longer trips out west.

    Size That Works for You

There's no pretending it's small. It measures nearly six metres long and just over two metres wide, though Toyota has worked to make that size feel manageable.

The steering is light, the visibility excellent, and the 360-degree cameras mean threading through city car parks isn't the chore you'd imagine.

Out on the open road, it feels stable and composed. The suspension setup with double wishbone up front and four-link coil at the rear takes the sting out of Queensland's uneven rural roads. Even when unladen, it rides more smoothly than you'd expect from something this capable.

The long wheelbase helps the Tundra track straight and steady, whether it's carrying gear, towing a van, or cruising empty down the M1.

Ground clearance of 216 mm means you won't be shying away from gravel, driveways, or campsites. And while this isn't Toyota's most off-road-focused ute, the part-time 4WD system with low range and a limited-slip rear diff gives it the confidence to handle dirt tracks, slippery boat ramps, or beach access points with ease.

    Inside the Cabin

Step inside and you're met with the sort of space you simply don't get in smaller dual-cabs.

The back seat is enormous, genuinely adult-friendly, and the front seats (both heated and ventilated) offer the kind of long-distance comfort you'd expect from a LandCruiser.

The trim is finished in synthetic leather, not plush but robust and easy to keep clean, which makes sense for the kind of work and travel this ute is built for.

Up front, there's a 14-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and a 12-speaker JBL sound system that more than holds its own against the road noise. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a huge central storage bin make it a comfortable, connected space for long hauls.

The tub is equally practical: lined, fitted with tie-downs, and a damped tailgate that lowers gracefully on its own. It's built for real use, whether that's loading bikes, tools, or weekend camping gear.

    Safety and Ownership

Toyota has loaded the Tundra Limited with its full suite of driver-assist tech: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and a 360-degree view camera system.

For towing, it adds a trailer brake controller, sway control, and a reversing assist mode that helps you guide the trailer without the stress.

Servicing is every six months or 10,000 kilometres, with each capped at $450 for the first five years. It's backed by Toyota's five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, or 160,000 kilometres for commercial use.

For buyers used to American imports with smaller networks and higher running costs, this is one of the Tundra's biggest selling points. You get Toyota reliability, parts availability, and service coverage across Queensland.

    The Verdict

The 2025 Tundra Limited is the most convincing full-size pick-up Toyota has ever built for Australia. It isn't a luxury showpiece or a tradie special; it's a proper towing and touring platform that finally gives Toyota customers a serious step up from the HiLux and LandCruiser 300.

It's powerful, refined, and built to cover distance with ease, whether you're towing a van up the range or heading north for a few weeks on the road.

At $155,990 plus on-road costs, it sits at the upper end of the segment, but it justifies the price through engineering quality, capability, and the peace of mind that comes with Toyota's aftersales support.

If you've outgrown your current ute or want a truck that can truly do it all, the Tundra Limited is worth your time behind the wheel.
