Adventure Guide | Mt Mee

The Motorama 4X4XMORE ventured to a new tag-along tour destination recently: Mt Mee!   This beautiful place just north of the city is calling to be explored and we're guiding you to the best spots. If you’re looking for a good place to increase your 4x4 skills, Mt Mee is a great spot to build-up your confidence. This destination will offer challenges for a great day out.

The best place to start your Mt Mee adventure is at 'The Gantry', located on 391-481 Sellin Road, Mount Mee.

From the south, drive 24km from Dayboro, via Mount Mee Road (tourist route number 29) and Sellin Road to the park's southern entrance.

From the park's southern entrance, continue 150m to 'The Gantry'. Allow at least 40 minutes from Dayboro.

At 'The Gantry' you'll find a wide open space for a picnic, toilet facilities and enough parking to meet up with your mates. This is also the perfect spot to let your tyre pressures down before heading out on the tracks.

Starting from The Gantry in the northern section of D'Aguilar National Park, you will embark on a scenic 16km forest drive, where you will rumble through picturesque native and plantation forests as you navigate dips, climbs and turns.

Along your way, stop at Falls Lookout (pictured below) and enjoy views across the D'Aguilar Range, or stretch your legs on the tranquil Mill rainforest walk.

If you're tired of sitting on your car seat, dip your feet in the cool waters on Rocky Hole track, before continuing on to enjoy a picnic lunch at Broadwater. If you've prepared your camping gear, you can spend a night camping beneath a star-studded sky at Neurum Creek camping area, or Archer camping area.

D'Aguilar National Park, where you can discover remote gorges, sheltered pockets of subtropical rainforest, expanses of eucalypt woodland and spectacular views to Moreton Bay.

Some highlights:

Wivenhoe Lookout - Enjoy breakfast, lunch or sunset amongst the trees at one of Wivenhoe Outlook's many picnic spots (BYO picnic blanket) and viewpoints.

Cedar White Day-Use Area - Nestled within a circle of mountains, this day-use area is a lovely place to enjoy a leisurely lunch and some creek-side frolicking.

Maiala - Stroll through lush rainforest, linger over a long lunch, and explore mill remnants from the 19th century at this popular day-use area.

To fully explore Mt Mee you will need a high clearance four wheel drive with low range capacity, though with the right conditions (no rain in the past few days) a stock standard 4x4 could handle the conditions as well. Before you hit the tracks, remember to deflate your tyres to around 25 psi.

The key thing is to ensure your 4x4 is adequately equipped – this includes packing:

Recovery gear (snatch strap, d-shackles)

Tyre pressure gauge

It’s also smart to familiarise yourself with your (rated) recovery points and don’t forget to fuel up; driving in 4WD is sure to increase your fuel consumption. Always plan for the unexpected and pack additional water, snacks and warm clothes in case of any emergencies.
