The Best Fuel Price Monitoring Apps to Help Save on Fuel

As individuals, we can’t control the price of fuel, however, we can find the cheapest fuel nearby using one of the many fuel price apps available.

While researching for this article, we found at least ten free-to-download apps that will provide up-to-date information on fuel prices across Brisbane. Here’s a quick list of our favourite fuel price apps including some of the benefits of each one.

Cheap Fuel This Way

The first two we recommend are EzySt and Simples - the Comparethemarket app. Not only are these two the cleanest looking fuel price apps out there, but they also both have a great street directions feature. If you are low on fuel and have a specific destination, simply punch in the address and they will generate directions for you while conveniently displaying the petrol stations along the way. They will show you the fuel prices for each station so you can get the best deal without altering your route.

Keeping Up With the Trends

Other apps, such as PetrolSpy and FuelMapAustralia, have price history features that allow you to follow pricing trends over the past month. These can help you stay on top of price trends and help you time your next fill-up for when the fuel is cheapest across the board. Petty is another app with this feature however they go one step further and allow you to drill down to weekly and 24-hour price trends provided that you sign up for their subscription which will only cost you $4.99 for a whole year. This subscription also has some personalisation options that can allow you to calculate how much you’ll save per tank refill at a specific service station.

Service Station Brands

Another app that you’ve probably already heard of but that’s a little different from the ones listed above is 7-Eleven's My 7-Eleven App and its Fuel Price Lock feature. Fuel Price Lock allows you to search prices at nearby 7-Eleven service stations and lock in the best available price for up to seven days. You can purchase up to 150 litres so even larger SUVs and utes with long-range tanks can take full advantage of the discounts available.

Several other major service station brands have their own smartphone apps that include features such as fuel discounts and affiliations with various points programs. Make sure to check out our earlier article How Much Should You Pay For Fuel? to learn more about the various programs and partnerships these brands have to offer.
