QLD Rego Labels: Now a Thing of the Past

Did you know that you don’t need to have a rego label in your window anymore?

Yes, you do still need to register your car, motorcycle, trailer or caravan but from October 1, 2014 the Queensland Government doesn’t need to see a sticker on your windshield to check if your vehicle is registered.

You can now legally rip the sticker off now or, if you choose to, you can wait until your current label expires if you haven’t got any Sugar Soap to clean the sticker off the glass.

Only boats and heavy vehicles (over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass) will continue to get labels and registration certificates, and must display them at all times.

Instead of your old renewal notice, Department of Transport and Main Roads will now send out a Vehicle Registration Notice, 4 weeks before your rego is about to expire and this will include all the info you need to know about your cars registration.

And if you buy a new car from Motorama, or transfer the title or plates on a used car – you’ll also get a registration certificate to show these new changes to the details of the car.

To make sure your vehicle is registered, you can run your number plate or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through the Department of Transport website, or by downloading the free QLD Rego Check app through iTunes or Google Play.
