Flocking to our river banks in a flush of yellow this Spring is the annual PA Research Foundation’s Support the Duck Stop Cancer Festival proudly presented by Motorama, a fun filled day of celebration, entertainment, rides, shows and the race that quacks the nation on Sunday 26 October – all in aid of cancer research.
For the last 4 years the Motorama group have gotten behind the PA’s duck for people and their families facing cancer, to show their support, by raising funds to help us provide early diagnosis, better treatments and long term care with the ultimate goal of stopping cancer.
AND this year they are driving it up a gear by getting all their 500 employees on-board to fundraise for the event and help contributing to the coveted first prize of a brand new car, this year valued at $45,000!
Motorama Managing Director Mark Woelders says we are so proud of what we have done in our local communities and across the globe for cancer research and it is up to us, people like you and our community groups to make the next cancer breakthrough a reality.
“The PA research Foundation have helped bring the world the first cancer vaccine and as a community we want to be a part of helping deliver the next,” says Mark.
Damian Topp CEO of the PA Research Foundation say not a lot of us know but the “The PA is the site of the world’s first cancer vaccine, Gardasil, so we think it’s a fitting place to try and find the next one, and the Support the Duck campaign is a great way in helping this become a reality,” Mr Topp said.
“Whether you’re in South-East Queensland or anywhere else around the world you can be a part of it by either buying a duck for $5 in our giant duck race lottery, which gives people a chance to win a car to the value of $45,000 from our supporters Motorama, order merchandise online, or come on down to the festival.
“In the fight against cancer, every minute of every research hour counts. The more you can Support the Duck to Stop Cancer, the more research minutes add up to hours and days – leading to life-saving breakthroughs.”
Mark says many of our staff and their families have been affected by cancer and sadly we have lost some wonderful friends throughout the past decade to this dreadful disease and the least we can do is help the researchers find cures and treatments to help those who have been diagnosed.
“Our staff always look forward to the duck race in October as it brings out a sense of camaraderie amongst our staff and a little bit of competition within the dealerships which is always good for moral, so watch this space for some exciting fundraising activities at your local Motorama dealership.”
The Support the Duck Festival will be held on Sunday 26th October at Riverside Drive, West End starting at 10am – 3pm.
