The Support the Duck, Stop Cancer Duck Race will once again send thousands of rubber ducks down the Brisbane River in October, and Motorama is proud to be a part of it!
In 2015, the Duck Race is returning with a fresh new look, and they’re inviting you flock together all to support the duck and raise money to stop cancer!
On October 18, the Brisbane Duck Race will transform the Brisbane River in West End and send 40,000 rubber ducks racing to win! It’s all to fundraise for the PA Research Foundation, which sees over 150,000 cancer patients at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, In 2008, the PA Research teams debuted the world’s first cancer vaccine – Gardasil – and are constantly researching, developing and trialling vaccines to help stop various cancers.
Motorama is once again throwing their support behind the duck, becoming presenting partner for the Brisbane Duck Race once again, with staff from every dealership in the Motorama Group lending a hand to fundraise as much money as possible for the cause.
Managing Director at Motorama, Mark Woelders is delighted at the support the teams have already thrown behind the Duck Race.
“Everyone is excited to get behind the Duck Race once again this year, and it’s great to see that all the teams are getting stuck in and raising as much money as possible,” he said.
Traditionally, Motorama has done most of its fundraising through sales of tickets and Duck Race merchandise through each dealership – with over $67,000 raised through ticket sales alone since Motorama became the presenting partner in 2012.
In 2015, though, Motorama kicked off fundraising with the Tour De Office, a charity bike ride with a twist. Teams from each dealership put up 16 team members to cycle for thirty minutes each over five days as a bike made its way through Moorooka, Springwood and Browns Plains-Hillcrest showrooms.
In five days, Motorama managed to raise $16,874 and kick-started the fundraising efforts for the PA Research Foundation while working up a sweat – over double the original target set by teams.
“Tour De Office has been an awesome success for us,” Mr. Woelders said.
“We had Superman and Spiderman ride, plus some French themed cyclists, people who donned pink tutus, footy gear and even some riders in heels,”
“It’s a great concept that celebrates the same values as Motorama – to have fun and raise money for charity.”
And supporters of the Duck Race will once again have the chance to barrack for their duck (or their flock of ducks) at the Motorama Family Fun Day, full of live entertainment, food, activities for the kids and many more reasons to get the whole family down to the Brisbane River and enjoy a Sunday out!
The lucky ticket holder of the duck that crosses the line first will win a car worth up to $40,000 from Motorama, while the second place duck has a $10,000 boat and trailer package thanks to the Port of Brisbane and the duck finishing in third will win its ticket holder a $5,000 travel voucher.
