The annual Brisbane Duck Race has become an institution in the River City, and the celebrations for 2015 are shaping up to be an exciting change.
With a jam-packed schedule full of activities for all ages, the Duck Race promises to be a quacking day out.
The PA Research Foundation’s Support the Duck, Stop Cancer Duck Race releases tens of thousands of rubber ducks onto the Brisbane River all to raise money to fund development, testing and trials of vaccines and treatments to help prevent and reduce the symptoms of cancers.
In 2015, Australia’s Biggest Duck Race becomes the Summertime Riverfest, and people can flock to West End to shake their tail feathers and make a day of it.
Starting from 10am, the Summertime Riverfest will feature live music, activities for young and young-at-heart and, of course, Australia’s Biggest Duck Race all to raise money to stop cancer!
For cool kids who are out for the day by the river, the special St George Gone Quackers Kids Zone features a stage show from the stars of Channel Ten’s Totally Wild, with a chance to get up close and personal with some furry animals or pat a python. You can also make and decorate your own rubber duck, have your face painted and have a roll in the zorb!
For the bigger kids, there’s a chance to shake your tail feathers at the Pradella Riverstage, which will have the best live entertainment all day that will keep you waddling all day. Plus, if you’re looking to take a break from dancing with other ducks, the Allianz Global Assistance Duck Inn lets you put your feet up while enjoying some chilled, live music featuring Shannon Watkins, the Brisbane boy who’s lighting the charts up worldwide.
Before the main event, the Celebrity Duck Race will pit television against radio when Channel Ten’s Josh Holt and Duane Strauss take on Mark Handy and Gary Clare from 4KQ Radio – and the winner will go up against Motorama in a race down the river aboard the giant inflatable duck! Once the celebrity winner is settled, it’s the real deal!
Australia’s Biggest Duck Race kicks off at 2:30, and 40,000 rubber ducks will set off in the hopes of becoming the lucky duck to cross the finish line first. The winning ticket holder will win $40,000 towards a car of their choice from Motorama, while the runner up ducks will win a $10,000 boat and trailer package and a $5,000 travel voucher for the second and third ticketholders respectively.
Make sure to buy your Duck Race tickets, you can pick them up online – or stop by Motoramato pick up your lucky ticket (with just one lucky duck, or put a whole flock in to maximise your chances of winning.)
We’ll see you down by the river on Sunday, October 18 for Summertime Riverfest – all of our teams at Motorama will be on hand to cheer on the duck and we’re looking forward to seeing who will be the lucky winner of Australia’s Biggest Duck Race!
