For organiser Samantha Beckwith & Michelle Sharman the best thing about Motorama Springwood’s Show and Shine Day is the chance to help others and raise funds for the annual PA Research Foundation’s Support the Duck Stop Cancer campaign.
Support the Duck Festival is a fun filled day of celebration, entertainment, rides, shows and the race that quacks the nation on Sunday 26 October – all in aid of cancer research.
For the last 7 year’s Aussies have gotten behind the PA’s duck for people and their families facing cancer, to show their support, by raising funds to help us provide early diagnosis, better treatments and long term care with the ultimate goal of stopping cancer.
So when Sam & Michelle’s employer, Motorama, joined the flock again this year as the major sponsor of the iconic festival, Sam and her colleagues started planning their fundraising activities to show their support.
“All of our dealerships love the duck season and competing against each other to raise much needed funds for cancer projects at the PA Hospital,” says Sam. “The cause is very close to our hearts as we all know someone who has been touched by cancer.
“This year we decided to do the ‘Show and Shine’ day as part of our fundraising, as what better place to show off a bevy of good looking cars than in a caryard.
“The Show and Shine is open to all makes and models of with heaps of great prizes to be won, including fuel vouchers, and hot laps with our V8 Supercar drivers. All you need to do is register your vehicle with all funds going towards cancer research.”
Even in a parking lot filled with some of Australia’s best known cars, Tanya Kropp prized Torana SLR 5000 will be a stand out on the day.
Tanya, said she had spent more than 3 years restoring her pride and joy, which had been in the family for more than 11 years.
“It’s wonderful to be a part of the Show and Shine day and make a difference to people and their families living with cancer by raising funds for medical research,” says Tanya.
“We all love cars here at Motorama and it’s wonderful to be able to show a bit of Australian motoring history for everyone to appreciate.” A Research Foundation CEO Damian Topp says every day 351 Australians will be asked to take a seat in their Doctor’s room with the next few words being “I am sorry, but you have cancer”.
“In the fight against cancer every minute of every hour counts. The more we can support our doctors and nurses the more research minutes add up to hours and days – leading to life-saving treatments at the site of the world’s first cancer vaccine, so we thinks it’s a fitting place to try and find the next one.”
