Motorama is proud to be one of six Foundation Partners of the Starlight Express Room at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, and fundraises throughout the year to support the Starlight Foundation.
Our big event in August is the Tour De Office, an event that gets us active in order to raise money for charity!
The Tour De Office was launched in 2011 as a way to combat office workers sitting for prolonged periods of time and to raise money for charities across Australia. In 2015, the Motorama Group joined the drive as part of our desire to become a Values Driven organisation.
Group Trainer and Company Values Champion Damian Woelders is excited about the opportunities for getting the team involved: “At Motorama, our values are a vital part of how we do business with each and every guest – in order for them to have a cool experience – but also with our teams and colleagues,” he said. “For example, in June, the value we wanted to focus on was ‘team work’,” said Damian. “So we created initiatives and team goals, celebrating with barbeques. Different dealerships hosted different events and embraced the culture.”
“The Tour De Office is a great way to demonstrate team work – a key part of our culture. We’re all working together to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation – and the element of competition just gives everyone that extra push to go a little harder. For us it was a real winner because we love to support charity and Tour de Office has become the best vehicles – or bikes – to make that happen!”
Since 2015, Motorama raised over $46,000 from riders getting support to pedal in 30-minute timeslots. This year, the group is hoping to increase this amount as well as the 2773 kilometres of biking done by staff from every dealership, admin and pre-delivery departments.
Previous years efforts contributed to Motorama becoming one of the largest corporate fundraisers for the Starlight Children’s Foundation in Queensland, and was backed by the group’s company value of demonstrating care in the community. “The Starlight Foundation has been a great, easy charity for everyone to connect with. The work they do to brighten the lives of sick kids and their families, who have such a tough time, is so impressive. It’s very inclusive. They invite us into their rooms and show us their work. They do such an excellent job.”
Damian Woelders is keeping a close eye on the training staff are doing in the lead up to the Tour. “We try to encourage Motorama staff to be green and cut down their carbon footprint in their everyday life, and hopefully we’ll see some people taking their cars off the road in order to ride to work and train for the Tour,” he said.
He is also keen on seeing riders have a good time, after previous years themed riders – some dressed in superhero costumes or as ‘French’ riders. “Tour de Office has been a winner from day one! Having the bike there creates this party atmosphere. We make it part of breakfast, lunch, or afternoon tea, with music and food. There’s someone on the bike and people encouraging them. It’s a team event and competition."
“All these elements make it such a fun time. Because one of our values is having fun, it’s just been perfect for us” he said. “If you’re not having fun, you’re not enjoying your work; then you won’t be as productive as you can be. We try to make sure that we have a little bit of fun every now and then to make Motorama a cool place to work.”
