The Starlight Children’s Foundation has been a force for good for over 26 years, helping to brighten the lives of children and teenagers with serious illnesses.
Together with Motorama, the Starlight Express Room at the new Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital is bringing fun back into the lives of those who need it the most.
The Starlight Express Room is the only room in the hospital where medical talk is not allowed – letting kids be kids, a haven for any children affected by illness, including brothers and sisters, who are often left with nothing to do when their sibling is sick.
Running the room is Captain Starlight and Starlight’s team of dedicated volunteers who are all serious about having fun. With DVDs, video games, music, face painting, craft and magic – the Starlight Express Room is all for kids, until night time when it turns into a space made for teenagers to hang out and take their minds of being at hospital.
“Kids in hospital, whether they are being treated or there for a sick brother or sister, need to stop and take time to just be kids – so I think it’s important to support something that lets them relax and take their minds off it,” he said.
